Sean Goe was sentenced to life in prison

Sean Goe Case

A Stark County jury found the Plain Township man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend guilty of murder Friday.

The jury found Goe guilty on all indicted charges including murder, burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordinance, and gross abuse of a corpse for the death of Raychel Sheridan, 24.

Sean Goe’s jury trial began Tuesday in Stark County Court of Common Pleas with opening statements were heard and the prosecution started calling witnesses.

The jury returned the guilty verdict Friday afternoon.

Sheridan’s body was found July 3 wrapped in plastic inside a garbage can at a Canton park, according to a 911 call.

The 911 call was made by a Canton Parks Department employee after finding the body while emptying trash at Mother Goose Land in the 400 block of Schroyer Ave. SW.

Stark County Sheriff deputies were called out to Sheridan and Goe’s apartment in the 4100 block of Orchard Dale Drive NW around 12:30 p.m. on July 2 after Sheridan’s mother requested a welfare check.

Sheriff Maier said the apartment’s door was open and nobody was inside, but since the scene was “suspicious”, deputies requested a search warrant.

While waiting for the search warrant, deputies said they saw a maroon Jeep Liberty, believed to be registered to Sheridan, traveling on Guilford Ave NW.

The driver, identified as Goe, fled on foot into a dense, wooded area after being stopped, deputies said.

After searching for several hours, Goe was arrested early the next morning.

Deputies said Goe also had active warrants for burglary, grand theft of a firearm and domestic violence.

According to court documents, Goe allegedly stole a handgun from a North Canton residence in April and in May, physically threatened Sheridan and cut holes in her tires.

Goe is set to be sentenced on Nov. 18.

Sean Goe Sentencing

Sean Goe, the man found guilty of killing his girlfriend, Raychel Sheridan, was sentenced to 29 years to life in prison

He was sentenced based on the following charges.

Murder and felonious assault: 15 years-to-life
10 years for repeated violations
Tampering with evidence: 36 months
Abuse with corpse: 12 months
Total: 29 years-to-life for all charges

He will be eligible for parole after serving 29 years behind bars.
It was an emotional courtroom as Sheridan’s family awaited Sean Goe’s sentencing. Ahead of the sentencing, the judge heard remarks from Sean’s mother, Renee Graham, who began by apologizing to the Sheridan family for the loss of their daughter. She then spoke about Goe’s troubled childhood prior to his adoption, stating that he had experienced instability, neglect, and abuse.

“I asked the court for mercy, and my son is someone who is shaped by a history of trauma, but he also has the potential to change. He deserves the chance to rebuild his life,” said Graham

In T-shirts emblazoned with sunflowers and images of Sheridan’s aunt, brother, and mother pleaded with the judge to impose the harshest sentence, reiterating that Sheridan did not deserve what happened to her.

“The pain Sean has caused us—or me, not to mention her mom, Dwain, Jonathan, and many, many more—is unforgivable,” said Sheridan’s aunt, Susan Morris.

“At least his family will have the option to remain happy in life because he’s still alive and well, not dumped in a garbage can,” said Jonathan Gillian, Sheridan’s brother.

Throughout the proceedings, Goe seemed unphased until Sheridan’s mother took the stand and spoke directly to him.

“You have murdered our baby girl. My question is, why? Why would you do this to someone who loved you? Who wanted to help your own personal battles? She stood by you regardless of what you did to her. When you had no one else, she truly loved you, and just thinking that, this makes me sick to my stomach,” Lisa said.

Sean’s eyes watered as he stared at Lisa as she spoke.

“What you have done to us is truly evil. I hope you spend the rest of your miserable life in prison,” Lisa continued. “I am so angry that I don’t think I will ever be able to forgive you, and I hope Jesus will.”

Before leaving the podium, Lisa held up two photos of Sheridan for Goe to see.

Then, Judge Frank Forchione began his remarks, showing no mercy. He described the crime as the most brutal murder he had ever encountered, adding that no childhood trauma could justify the heinous acts Goe committed.

“The senselessness of this murder tells me not only are you morally bankrupt, but you have no fiber of decency,” said Forchione

Forchione recounted what Goe did to Sheridan in July, including beating her so severely that she was unrecognizable, shoving her body into a garbage can, and attempting to cover up the crime. He also noted that at the time, Goe had five outstanding warrants for his arrest related to other crimes.

“I will do everything I can to lock you up for a long, long time… it’s obvious to me that I cannot rehabilitate someone like you, with such a disregard for human life,” said Forchione.

Goe was sentenced to 29 years to life on all charges, including murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse.

“Mister Goe, you sold your soul to the devil. I have ordered you to receive the maximum sentence on every count because you deserve the maximum sentence,” said Judge Forchione.

Following the verdict, Sheridan’s family celebrated, but after everything, Lisa took a moment to look up as if attempting to speak to her daughter.

“We love you, baby girl. I’ve got you. I told you we were going to get this, and we got it,” said Lisa.

Logan MacPhail Murders Holly Newton In England

Logan MacPhail
Logan MacPhail

Logan MacPhail is a teen killer from England who would murder his ex girlfriend Holly Newton

According to court documents Logan MacPhail and Holly Newton would end their relationship and sixteen year old Logan did not take it well

Logan MacPhail would stalk the fifteen year old girl for an hour waiting for her to be alone when he would attack stabbing Holly Newton multiple times causing her death

Logan MacPhail would be arrested and charged with murder

At trial Logan would admit to the killing of Holly Newton but attempted to put forward he was guilty of manslaughter and not murder however in the end he would be convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for seventeen years

Logan MacPhail Case

An obsessed and jealous teenager who stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in an alleyway has been detained for life and told he will serve a minimum of 17 years.

Logan MacPhail murdered 15-year-old Holly Newton in Hexham, Northumberland, in January 2023.

He stabbed her 36 times after he stalked her for an hour as she walked with friends after school.

On Friday, Mr Justice Hilliard described the attack on Holly as “vicious and brutal”.

Newcastle crown court heard that MacPhail, who was 16 at the time of the murder and is now 17, had been Holly’s first and only boyfriend and at the start it was “a typical teenage relationship”.

But Logan MacPhail became obsessed with Holly, wanting to know where she was and who she was going out with. Holly’s mother, Micala Trussler, said her daughter was a victim of domestic abuse.

He killed Holly, from Haltwhistle, Northumberland, after she tried to break up with him.

The judge said the relationship between MacPhail and Holly had “its ups and downs” but was nothing out of the ordinary. When Holly indicated the relationship was over “you were not able to accept that. You were obsessed by Holly”, he said.

MacPhail lured Holly into an alleyway with the specific aim of attacking her where other people could not intervene, he said. “You were filled with resentment and jealousy but still able to calculate where you could best attack her and able to wait until you got that opportunity.”

Hilliard said the attack had lasted a minute or so and included stab wounds to her head. It meant Holly’s mother was prevented from seeing her daughter because of the “horrifying condition she was in”.

Trussler spoke at the sentencing hearing of being unable to hug, kiss or even touch her daughter because she was “a crime scene, she was evidence”.

Hilliard said: “The stark facts are that you made a conscious decision to stab a 15-year-old girl to death with a knife that you were carrying unlawfully in a public place having followed her secretly around town for an hour, all because your relationship with her had ended.

“You were jealous of the fact she might see someone else.

“What happened in this case should not happen to any child or any parent.”

Speaking of the family’s loss, the judge said: “All those years ahead for a 15-year-old girl that she and they will never see.”

Logan MacPhail also stabbed a boy who tried to intervene to help Holly. The boy stood up in court to deliver a victim impact statement in which he said he was struggling with his mental health and found it difficult to concentrate.

The court heard that the night before he murdered Holly, MacPhail had travelled 40 miles from his home to hers and hung around for hours.

He was eventually taken home by police who had been alerted by his mother that he was missing.

MacPhail, from Gateshead, has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and has learning difficulties, but the judge said he was sure he knew what he was doing.

Nigel Edwards KC, defending, said MacPhail’s progress since being in secure accommodation has been “meteoric”.

The judge told MacPhail: “I am sure you can make further progress if you continue to try whilst you are in custody, you can definitely do better than you sometimes think.”

Holly’s family believe she was a victim of MacPhail’s controlling behaviour and domestic abuse, but she is too young for it to be categorised that way.

Trussler told the court: “I do not agree that only those over the age of 16 can be victims of domestic abuse and I will use Holly’s experience to petition for change.

“I firmly believe that Logan thought if he couldn’t have Holly, then no one else could.”

Susan Dungworth, the police and crime commissioner for Northumbria, backed the family’s call for a law change. “We need an urgent review of current legislation and how the system can better protect young victims in coercive, controlling and abusive relationships,” she said.

MacPhail claimed he never planned to attack Holly but wanted to use the knife to kill himself. He denied murder but admitted manslaughter, claiming he blacked out, but a jury rejected his story after a six-week trial.

Cleotha Abston Murders Eliza Fletcher

Cleotha Abston
Cleotha Abston

Cleotha Abston is a killer from Tennessee who would be convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher

According to court documents Eliza Fletcher was taking her morning run when she would be kidnapped by Cleotha Abston. The woman would be forced into a SUV and would later be fatally shot.

A year before the murder Cleotha Abston would sexually assault another woman at gunpoint and would ultimately be sentenced to eighty years in prison for that brutal crime. A delay in the testing of a sexual assault case would allow Cleotha to remain on the streets. Due to this the Tennessee Government would pass a law to expedite the testing of sexual assault kits

For the murder of Eliza Fletch Cleotha Abston would plead guilty, to avoid the death penalty, and would be sentenced to life in prison without parole

Cleotha Abston Case

A Tennessee man pleaded guilty Monday to kidnapping a Memphis school teacher while she was on an early morning run and then killing her.

Cleotha Abston entered guilty pleas to first-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping in the abduction and death of Eliza Fletcher.

Abston, 40, had been set to stand trial in February. Prosecutors had said they would seek the death penalty if Abston were convicted of first-degree murder. Instead, Judge Lee Coffee sentenced Abston to life in prison without parole after he entered the guilty pleas.

Fletcher was grabbed from a street while she was jogging before dawn near the University of Memphis on Sept. 2, 2022, and forced into an SUV. Her body was found days later near a vacant duplex

The killing of Fletcher, a 34-year-old kindergarten teacher and mother of two, shocked the Memphis community and led to a flood of support for her family. Runners in Memphis and several other cities held early morning running events in her honor a week after she was abducted, a tradition that has continued in the city on the anniversary of her kidnapping

In a statement, Fletcher’s family said they “miss the bright light of Liza’s life every day.”

“Liza meant so much to so many, and her smile radiated happiness, energy, and comfort,” her family said. “Her husband, her children, her parents, her brother, the rest of her family, her friends, her students, her school families, her fellow teachers, her church community, and so many others were moved by countless examples of her faith, kindness, and compassion.”

Abston, who also has gone by the name Cleotha Henderson, was arrested after police detected his DNA on sandals found near the location where Fletcher was last seen. An autopsy report showed Fletcher died of a gunshot wound to the head.

“We had been meeting with him regularly for the past few months and had been telling him that we need to settle this case, that we cannot go forward with a trial and expect to succeed,” said Juni Ganguli, Abston’s lawyer.

Abston was sentenced to 80 years in prison May 17 for raping a woman a year before he was charged in Fletcher’s death. He was convicted in April of raping the woman while holding her at gunpoint in September 2021.

Abston, whose history of criminal charges dates back to the 1990s when he was a juvenile, was not charged in the 2021 rape case until after being charged a year later with killing Fletcher because of a long delay in processing the sexual assault kit. After Fletcher’s death, the Legislature passed a law requiring the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to issue a quarterly report on sexual assault kit testing times.

Raymond Childs Murders 6 In Indiana

raymond childs
Raymond Childs

Raymond Childs is a teen killer from Indiana who would murder his entire family of six

According to court documents Raymond Childs was seventeen years old when he asked to sleep over at his girlfriends home. When the teen killer was told no he would proceed to murder Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs, 42, Elijah Childs, 18, Rita Childs, 13, Kiara Hawkins, 19, and Kiara’s unborn son. Childs would also attempt to murder another person in the home

Raymond Childs would be arrested and charged with six counts of murder and an attempted murder. His first trial was declared a mistrial when a witness asked him why he would murder his family. Childs would be retried and convicted of the six murders and attempted murder

Raymond Childs will be sentenced at a later date and only his age at the time of the murders is saving him from death row

Raymond Childs Case

After a week-long jury trial, Raymond Ronald Lee Childs III was found guilty of a mass shooting that left six of his family members dead in January 2021.

Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs, 42, Elijah Childs, 18, Rita Childs, 13, Kiara Hawkins, 19, and Hawkins’ unborn child were all killed in that attack.

The jury convicted Childs of six counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of carrying a handgun without a license after deliberating the case for about three hours.

Childs is expected to have his sentencing hearing in January 2025.

Childs’ conviction comes several months after the first hearing of his case was ruled a mistrial on July 23, 2024.

A key witness for the prosecution team verbally confronted Childs in front of the jury, which led to Marion Superior Judge Chris Miller acknowledging the courtroom violation and ultimately declaring the case a mistrial after talking to individual jurors, Fox59 reported at the time.

Before the shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in April 2021, the mass shooting carried out by Childs was considered one of the worst the city had seen in a decade, according to local officials and law enforcement at the time.

“What occurred inside that home is as unfathomable today as it was in 2021,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a press release about Childs’ conviction.

“It has been an incredibly difficult journey for the family and friends of the six people that we tragically lost. I am proud of our trial team, law enforcement, and witnesses, whose dedication to our victims didn’t waiver when faced with adversity. Their commitment ultimately led to today’s verdict and justice for the victims of this horrific crime.”

On Jan. 24, 2021, Childs got into an argument with his father after Childs had returned home after leaving without permission, according to court documents. Childs was 17 years old at the time of the shooting.

The argument soon escalated, which led to Childs shooting his parents and the other members of his family with a Draco 7.62. The shooting left his mom, dad, two siblings, a pregnant teen and her unborn child dead.

One of the few people who survived the shooting was Childs’ 15-year-old brother, who officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the front porch of the family’s house in the 3500 block of Adams Street.

The teen was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition.

After surviving his surgery, the teen told police of the events that led up to the shooting and he heard their father say, “I’m sorry Raymond; I love you,” before being shot by Childs, according to court documents.

Before Childs shot his brother, the teen explained that he pleaded with his big brother to not shoot him, “I can give you 40 dollars. I won’t say nothing. Please don’t kill me,” according to court documents.

Police arrested Childs at the home of a relative the following day.

Raymond Childs Sentencing

Four years ago, an Indianapolis teenager angry at his father for punishing him for breaking curfew turned a gun on his family and mercilessly killed his parents, brother, sister and his brother’s pregnant girlfriend.

The cold-blooded teen even pulled the trigger on his 15-year-old brother while the younger sibling begged and bargained for his life. That sibling managed to survive the shooting, running to a neighbor’s house while bleeding from bullet wounds and knocking on the door for help.

After two trials, Raymond Childs III was found guilty in October of six counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of carrying a handgun without a license.

On Tuesday, a punishment was finally handed down for Childs’ heinous crimes as a judge sentenced him to 360 years in prison. The rest of Childs’ life will now likely be spent behind bars.

In the early hours of Jan. 24, 2021, a then 17-year-old Childs picked up a gun and set about killing every single person in his family home on North Adams Street. He gunned down his parents, stepmom Kezzie and father Raymond Childs II. His gunned down his brother and sister, 18-year-old Elijah and 13-year-old Rita. He even killed Elijah’s pregnant girlfriend Kiara Hawkins, and her near-term baby.

While Childs worked his way through the home, his 15-year-old brother Xavier awoke to the gunshots. Xavier hid while his brother went room-to-room executing their family. Xavier heard their father’s last words — “I love you, Raymond” — before Childs gunned him and their mother down.

Xavier tried to flee and save himself, but Childs didn’t plan to spare anyone. He chased his younger brother, holding a gun on Xavier who begged and bartered for his life. Xavier even offered Raymond Childs III $44 in blood-soaked currency.

“Please don’t kill me,” he begged his brother.

But Childs shot his younger brother anyway.

”He looked in his brother’s face and said nothing. He raised his gun, shot him in the leg, causing Xavier to fall, then he shot him a second time and left him for dead and he left,” prosecutors said during Childs’ trial.

Xavier, bloody and hurting, was able to limp to a neighbor’s porch and call for help. When police arrived, he told the officers “He shot them all.” When asked who, the wounded child said, “Raymond Childs.”

Police walked into the Adams Street house to find the dead scattered about the whole of the home. “We got five,” officers said over the radio.

In the wake of the incomprehensible murders, police learned the spark that set Raymond Childs III on his bloody rampage was a broken curfew. Turns out Childs had taken his father’s vehicle without permission the night before the murders. When he returned home after midnight, his father let Childs know he was in trouble and promised discipline would be meted out later.

But the 17-year-old Childs wouldn’t wait to find out what his punishment would be. Instead, he picked up a gun in the dead of night and meted out his own retaliation — planning for no one to escape his wrath.

As police officers at the murder scene began to piece together the unthinkable familicide that occurred on Adams Street, investigators learned that Childs had returned to the home in the aftermath of the murders with his girlfriend, acting as if he’d only just learned of the slaying of his family.

Childs’ girlfriend was with him when she heard about police being called to his family home, but Childs denied any knowledge of what might be wrong. The girlfriend later told police Childs was acting nervous when they arrived at the crime scene and “acted a clown.”

Childs was arrested later at a relative’s home in Plainfield thanks to his surviving brother telling police at the hospital what occurred inside the Adams Street home on Jan. 24, 2021.

Childs was ultimately convicted of six counts of murder after his second trial in October 2024. It took a jury less than three hours to convict him.

Childs’ first trial was declared a mistrial after emotional testimony prompted a family member to turn to Childs and ask, “Why did you do it, Raymond?”

Judge Charles Miller said the killing of the Childs’ family was one of the worst mass murders ever committed in Indianapolis history. Miller doubted Childs could ever be trusted to live free among society.

During the sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Childs took the stand and addressed his surviving family. He didn’t apologize and he accepted no responsibility for his family’s deaths.

”Just as I sit here four years ago I’m innocent,” Childs said. “There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think about them and wish they was here. Even on my bad days, I tell myself they’re still here.

”I’m not a killer. I’m not a murderer. I’m not a bad person. And a lot of people honestly agree with that.”

Deputy Prosecutor Daniel Cicchini said it was disappointing that Childs wouldn’t face responsibility despite evidence he felt could be characterized as “overwhelming.” This included cell phone evidence, Childs’ being caught with the murder weapon and the most compelling evidence of all — Childs’ surviving brother identifying Raymond Childs III as the killer in open court.

“It would have been nice if he had expressed remorse about what had happened,” said Cicchini.

Little brother Xavier was the only one left alive to tell the tale…and now lives with the knowledge that Raymond’s mother and sister don’t believe him.

Rhonda Smith, mother of Raymond Childs III, stands by her son and denies his guilt.

”Everything that he said, I believe,” she said. “I don’t too much believe justice was served but I do hope that they do find the real people that did it.”

Childs’ sister Kayla Smith, during sentencing, recalled the domestic violence she witnessed growing up in a household with Raymond III.

”For him to be seen as a monster it just breaks my heart because that’s not who he is,” she said, wiping away tears. “He’s always been a person who cares for people, do whatever he can to take the stress off other people.”

Raymond Childs, Jr. had a dream to turn his sons into rappers and a video was posted of the teens displaying a semi-automatic rifle to enhance their image.

Rhonda compared the father of her son to another famous music family patriarch from their hometown of Gary — Joe Jackson, father of the Jackson 5, who also battered his children.

“He was that Joe Jackson,” said Smith who testified that Childs Jr., “loved his kids and went overboard.”

Smith said that Childs Jr. battered her in front of her children, and she fought back, and that the State Division of Child Protective Services failed to step in and protect the family.

She also said her current boyfriend, who at times tangled with Childs Jr. over his raising of Smith’s children, is under arrest for murder in Lake County.

A child developmental psychologist testified that while Raymond Childs III was a victim of beatings and suffered PTSD as a result of the violence he witnessed growing up, the youth professed his love for his father and siblings he was convicted of murdering and that all the children couldn’t wait to turn 18 in order to leave their abusive home environment.

During his sentencing, Childs turned to the family of Kiara Hawkins in the courtroom.

”To Miss Hawkins, I know you don’t know me that well but I promise you I didn’t hurt your daughter. I’m gonna do everything in my power to prove that to you.

”I lost family like y’all did. And still to this day I’m still grieving and trying to cope with it.”

The prosecution thanked the victims’ families for the long, arduous journey that finally ended in a 360-year prison sentence.

“The defendant brutally murdered six people: his father, stepmother, older brother, younger sister, his older brother’s girlfriend, and her unborn child. There is no penalty that could ever reflect the harm and unimaginable loss caused by the defendant’s actions.

“This resolution would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of law enforcement, our trial team, and the victims’ families, who have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of an unimaginable tragedy.

“We should join together to support and honor the families of Raymond Childs Jr., Kezzie Childs, Elijah Childs, Rita Childs, Kiara Hawkins, and Khaos Hawkins and the legacies they leave behind.
