Bruce Kilgore Case

A man convicted in a 1986 kidnapping and murder of a St. Louis woman was executed by lethal injection early Wednesday, prison officials said. Bruce Kilgore, 38, of St. Louis was put to death at the state prison in Potosi. Kilgore became the seventh person to be executed in Missouri this year, a record rate of executions for the state since capital punishment resumed in Missouri in 1989. When asked for a last statement, Kilgore made comments calling for forgiveness and peace, according to a Missouri Department of Corrections spokesman. Kilgore received the death penalty for the murder of Marilyn Wilkins, 54, a St. Louis restaurant worker. Prosecutors said Kilgore and an accomplice abducted and robbed Wilkins and then slit her throat and stabbed her to death.
