Guy Allen Case

A Travis County jury has sentenced a man to death for stabbing his girlfriend and her daughter to death in April 2002.

Guy Allen, was convicted of capital murder on March 15 in the deaths of Barbara Hill and Janette Johnson. The jury handed down the death sentence on Saturday.

Hill, 47, was stabbed 46 times in her Austin home, while her 19-year-old daughter was stabbed 10 times, police said.

Defense attorney Joe James Sawyer had asked jurors to spare his client’s life because he had endured a terrible childhood. Allen was raped repeatedly by a cousin over a period of two years, his brother, Steve Allen, testified Friday. He also had gone hungry and was beaten by his mother

Sawyer could not be reached for comment after the sentence was announced.

It was the first time a jury has imposed the death sentence in Travis County since 2001

“We don’t frequently ask for the death penalty, and it was gratifying in a case this terrible and with a defendant who is this violent that the jury would look at the evidence and do the right thing,” prosecutor Allison Wetzel said.
