Jesus Medrano Case
A Kenosha man has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to fatally stabbing his father and stepmother with a machete after they stopped him from sexually assaulting a teenager.
A Kenosha County Circuit Court judge sentenced Jesus Medrano III on Monday to life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision, the Kenosha News reported.
Medrano, 27, had faced two first-degree intentional homicide charges in the 2021 deaths of his father, Jesus Medrano Jr., 49, and stepmother, Latrice Myers-Medrano, 36.
He admitted to stabbing them to death with a machete Jan. 6, 2021, after the couple stopped him from sexually assaulting a teenage relative who lived with them at their Kenosha home.
Medrano pleaded guilty in September to first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon in Myers-Medrano’s death and attempted first-degree sexual assault. The homicide charge for Medrano’s father’s death was dismissed under his plea agreement, as was a child abuse charge.
Three child relatives fled the couple’s home through a window during Medrano’s machete attack and sought help from a neighbor.
Officers who tracked Medrano to another home found him sitting on basement stairs, still holding a machete, according to court records.

Jesus Medrano News
The 27-year-old Kenosha man convicted of killing his father and step-mother with a machete after attempting to sexually assault a teenager in their home nearly two years ago will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Jesus Medrano III was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision Monday afternoon before a Kenosha County Circuit Court judge.
Medrano faced two first-degree intentional homicide charges in the January 2021 deaths of his father, Jesus Medrano Jr., and stepmother, Latrice Myers-Medrano. Medrano was also charged with felonies of attempted first-degree sexual assault and child abuse at the time.
Medrano pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide of Myers-Medrano by use of a dangerous weapon and attempted first-degree sexual assault in September 2023 during a hearing before Judge Anthony Milisauskas.
The homicide charge for the death of Medrano Jr. and the child abuse charge were dismissed through a plea deal with prosecutors but the charges were read into the record and considered during sentencing.
On Monday afternoon, Medrano appeared handcuffed and in an orange prison jumpsuit.
“This is an unreal case,” Milisauskas said before handing down his sentence. “It’s brutal. It’s shocking. It’s grizzly.”
He said the victims must have faced a “nightmare” on Jan. 6, 2021.
“The facts of this case are just terrible,” he said. “The trauma had to be just unbearable and tremendous. … There is a tremendous hurt here caused by the defendant.”
Milisauskas said “he would not be doing his job” if he allowed Medrano the possibility of extended supervision.
“There has to be a need to protect the public,” he said. “I can’t take the chance. … He’s going to get life.”
Medrano admitted to stabbing the two adults to death with a machete after the couple stopped him from assaulting a teenage family member who lived with them at their home in the 900 block of 48th Street in the early morning hours of Jan. 6, 2021.
Medrano Jr. died from trauma and shock from multiple stab wounds, and Meyers-Medrano died from blood loss from a stab wound that severed her femoral artery, according to court documents.
Three children in the family fled the home through a window during the early-morning attack and sought help from a neighbor. When police arrived, they found the two adults dead inside the house and tracked Medrano to another home.
Medrano was found sitting on basement stairs, still holding a machete.
When questioned by police that day, Medrano recounted how and why he killed them, according to court documents.
Medrano did not look at members of the victims’ families while they spoke in court on Monday afternoon and offered impact statements.
“I want to start off by taking full responsibility for my crimes,” Medrano said. “I’m sorry.”
District Attorney Michael Graveley prosecuted the case with assistant district attorney Emily Gaertner, who asked for a sentence of life in prison.
“He should never be released,” Gaertner said, adding Medrano’s actions were “senseless and horrendous.”
Michelle Gardner and Joseph Corcoran served as Medrano’s defense attorneys.
Gardner said Medrano suffered abuse during a difficult childhood and suffered from mental health issues. She asked for life in prison with the possibility of extended supervision at some date in the future.
Victims speak
Christine Scott, the deceased Medrano Jr.’s older sister, also asked for life in prison.
“On Jan. 6, 2021, Jesus made a choice to take Jessie and Latrice’s lives from us. … People that did everything and anything they could for him,” she said.
“I never want you to be able to walk this earth as a free person again,” she told him.
A minor victim said Medrano hurt many, many people.
“You left scars on me and everyone you hurt,” she said. “I only have one question to ask. … Why?”
Chiquita Myers, sister of Myers-Medrano, said she is still living in a “nightmare.”
“You broke our family apart,” she said. “One day I would like to see my sister again in heaven. … She was a good person, very strong.”
