Robert Henry Case
Last-minute appeals are being heard for a South Florida man who faces execution for killing two women by beating them with a hammer and setting them on fire.
Barring a successful appeal, 55-year-old Robert Henry is scheduled to die by injection Thursday night at Florida State Prison in Starke.
Henry was convicted of the 1987 slayings of 53-year-old Phyllis Harris and 35-year-old Janet Thermidor, his co-workers at a Deerfield Beach fabric store.
Henry initially told police the crime was committed by an unknown assailant. But Thermidor lived long enough to identify him as her killer, and he later confessed.
Prosecutors say Henry did it for money — $1,200 to be exact.
Henry is challenging Florida’s method of lethal injection in his latest U.S. Supreme Court appeal.
