Lisa would be sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole

Lisa Snyder Case

A Pennsylvania mother who killed her two young children by hanging them in the family’s home has been sentenced to two life terms, according to Berks County District Attorney.

On Thursday, a judge sentenced Lisa Snyder of Berks County a month after her conviction on two counts of first-degree murder.

Back in 2019, Snyder’s eight-year-old son Conner and four-year-old daughter Brinley were found hanging in the basement of their Albany Township home.

The siblings were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where they died three days later.

Snyder had told police her son was bullied and had threatened to take his life, but authorities said they found no evidence to support her claim. The boy displayed no signs of trouble that day on a school bus security video.

An occupational therapist later said the child wasn’t physically capable of causing that kind of harm to himself or his little sister.

Police also cited Snyder’s online searches for information about suicide, death by hanging, and how to kill someone, as well as episodes of a documentary crime series called “I Almost Got Away With It.”

A coroner said both children were killed by hanging and ruled the deaths homicides.

The defense had sought an acquittal, saying the case was based on speculation and “guesswork.”

Snyder opted for a judge instead of a jury to hear the case. Berks County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Theresa Johnson took about an hour before issuing a guilty verdict. Snyder also was convicted of child endangerment and evidence tampering.

Verity Beck Murders Parents In Pennsylvania

Verity Beck
Verity Beck

Verity Beck is a killer from Pennsylvania who would plead guilty to the murders of her parents

According to court documents police were called to a residence in Abington, Pennsylvania where they would find the bodies of Reid Beck, 73, and Miriam Beck, 72. An autopsy would reveal that each victim was shot in the head and then dismembered

According to Verity Beck brother his sister had been living with her parents and told him things were not going well. It turns out that Verity was stealing from her elderly parents and they confronted their daughter which may have led to their murders

Verity Beck would ultimately plead guilty but mentally ill and would be sentenced to life in prison

Verity Beck Case

A suburban Philadelphia woman will spend life in prison for shooting and killing her parents and then dismembering their bodies with a chainsaw inside their home.

On Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, Verity Beck, 45, of Abington, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murders of her parents, Reid Beck, 73, and Miriam Beck, 72.

Verity Beck was silent as she was led to and from the courtroom. While inside the courtroom, however, she admitted to killing her parents and dismembering their bodies.

The couple’s bodies were found on Jan. 17, 2023, after their son told Abington police he had gone to his parents’ home to check on them. He said he saw a body on a floor, covered with a bloody sheet, and a chainsaw nearby. Prosecutors later said both victims had a single gunshot wound to the head.

The man told police that he spoke to his sister, who also lived there, and that when he asked whether something bad had happened to their parents, she responded, “Yes.” Verity Beck, a former teacher at a special education school in Lower Merion Township, told her brother that things at home had “been bad,” prosecutors said.

Prosecutors also said Beck was facing financial difficulties and her parents had accused her of stealing from them.

Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty in the case and Beck underwent several mental health evaluations which determined she was competent to stand trial.

In January 2024, Beck notified officials that she intended to use an insanity defense. While the court found she was sane when she committed the murders, they accepted her plea of guilty but mentally ill.

“While everyone in the family realized that she had mental health issues, no one recognized the seriousness of it or how serious it had become,” James Lyons, Beck’s defense attorney, told NBC10 on Monday.

While spending the rest of her life in prison, Beck will receive medical treatment so that she won’t be a threat to herself and others.

Beck’s family members, including her brother, were present in court on Monday. They were pleased the case did not go to trial.

“This was a horrendous tragedy for them to have to live through since it happened all the way up until this point,” Samantha Cauffman, the prosecutor, said Monday. “To not have to go through that process of a trial, this is wonderful for them.”

Lisa Snyder Murders 2 Children In Pennsylvania

Lisa Snyder
Lisa Snyder

Lisa Snyder is a killer from Pennsylvania who would murder her two children

According to court documents Lisa Snyder would hang her two children, Conner Snyder, 8, and Brinley Snyder, 4, in the basement of her home

Lisa Snyder would call 911 and tell the operator that she found her two children hanging from a wire cable in the basement. Lisa would tell authorities that Conner was being bullied at school and was suicidal. However Lisa older child would tell police this was not the case and ultimately she would be arrested and charged with the two murders along with a host of other charges. It turns out that Lisa had her children removed from the home due to homicidal thoughts back in 2014

Authorities believe that Lisa planned to kill Conner Snyder and during the process of the murder Brinley Snyder walked into the basement which led Lisa to murder the four year old as well.

Lisa Snyder would go to trial five years after the double murder where her lawyers attempted to convince the jury that she was insane at the time of the murder however she would ultimately be convicted. Prosecutors have declined to seek the death penalty in this case so more than likely she will be sentenced to life in prison without parole

Lisa Snyder Case

Lisa Snyder, the mother charged in the 2019 hanging deaths of her two children in the basement of their home in Berks County has been found guilty, officials say.

Snyder was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Conner Snyder, 8, and Brinley Snyder, 4, during a non-jury trial.

A Berks County judge delivered the guilty verdict in court Tuesday afternoon, five years after the gruesome killings.

On September 23, 2019, the two young victims were found hanging approximately three feet apart from a single wired cable with plastic coating in the basement of their Albany Township home after Snyder called 911,

Snyder was interviewed twice by authorities before she was taken into police custody and arraigned in Hamburg.

Authorities linked the mother to the children’s deaths after discovering internet searches for suicide and crime shortly before they were found

Officials say Snyder claimed her son Conner was bullied and was suicidal. Snyder’s teen son, who lived in the house, as well as other witnesses, refuted the claim that Conner was bullied and said he never mentioned being suicidal, according to investigators.

Authorities previously reported that the two children had been removed from the family’s home in 2014 by Children and Youth Services (CYS). They were returned in February 2015 and Children Protective Services had been involved with the family until Nov. 2015.

When it comes to filing to seek the death penalty, back in 2020, prosecutors said the crimes meet the threshold of aggravating factors required in Pennsylvania for a capital case.

“The decision to seek the death penalty was not made lightly, but we decided there was overwhelming evidence of the aggravating factors,” District Attorney John T. Adams said.

Lisa Snyder News

Lisa Snyder, the Pennsylvania mother on trial for the hanging deaths of her two young children, has been found guilty, according to reports.

Local WFMZ, ABC 6, and The Reading Eagle reported that Snyder, 41, was found guilty Tuesday, Sept. 24, of first-degree murder, child endangerment and evidence tampering in a Berks County courtroom. First-degree murder convictions in Pennsylvania automatically carry a life sentence.

The Pennsylvania mother was found guilty of killing her two children, 8-year-old Conner and 4-year-old Brinley, in September 2019.

PEOPLE previously reported that Snyder was arrested in December 2019 in connection with their hanging deaths. The Pennsylvania mother initially claimed to police that she called 911 after discovering her two children hanging from a support beam in the family’s basement from the opposite ends of the same dog lead and two chairs overturned beneath them.

Snyder had told police her son was being bullied at school and made reference to wanting to die by suicide, and to not die alone. But several family members and employees at the 8-year-old’s school testified that Conner was never bullied at school, was not suicidal and never experienced sudden emotional changes, according to WFMZ.

The outlet reports that at the trial, prosecutors presented Snyder’s internet searches in the days leading up to her kids’ murders, on topics like suicide and the true crime TV show I Almost Got Away With It.

Prosecutors also provided evidence during the trail that showed Snyder purchased the dog lead used in her children’s murders the day before at a local Walmart, according to ABC 6.

“We are very pleased with the verdict,” Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams tells PEOPLE. “It’s something that will probably never leave our minds, because it was unimaginable. None of us could ever have imagined the brutality and the horrific loss of life. We’re very pleased that Lisa Snyder will never see the light of day and will spend the rest of her life in jail where she belongs.”

Conner and Brinley were discovered unconscious in the family’s basement after Snyder called 911, and the two children were pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital three days later, according to WFMZ.

The outlet also reports that Snyder’s adult son Owen Snyder testified during his mother’s trial, referring to her as “Lisa” rather than as “Mom.”

When asked why he was referring to Snyder that way, WFMZ reports that Owen told the courtroom he no longer considers her his mother.

Snyder’s sentencing will take place in October, according to ABC 6.

Heather Pressdee Nurse Serial Killer

Heather Pressdee
Heather Pressdee

Heather Pressdee is a serial killer from Pennsylvania who was convicted of three murders and of 19 counts of criminal attempt to commit murder

According to court documents Heather Pressdee was working as a nurse at a number of medical facilities across Pennsylvania when she would purposely give her patients a high dose of insulin which led to their deaths. Police believe that she would give the insulin doses at a time to ensure that the patients would die before her shift ended so they would not be sent to a hospital where tests would reveal the high insulin dosages

Heather Pressdee came under suspicion due to the high number of deaths on her shifts

When Heather Pressdee was finally arrested she would make a deal with prosecutors in order to avoid a death sentence

Heather Pressdee would be sentenced to three life terms without parole plus 380 to 760 years for the nineteen counts of criminal attempt to commit murder

Heather Pressdee Case

A former nurse who killed at least three patients and tried to kill more than a dozen more at nursing facilities across Pennsylvania has been sentenced to life in prison, the state’s attorney general said.

But the family of one of her victims said her real justice is yet to come.

Heather Pressdee pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office said.

Pressdee, 41, pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty, her attorney Phillip DiLucente told CNN Thursday.

As part of the plea agreement, a Butler County judge sentenced Pressdee to three consecutive life sentences for the three counts of murder “plus 380 to 760 years of consecutive incarceration for the 19 counts of criminal attempt to commit murder,” the attorney general’s office said. She will not be eligible for parole.

“The defendant used her position of trust as a means to poison patients who depended on her for care,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said.

“This plea and life sentence will not bring back the lives lost, but it will ensure Heather Pressdee never has another opportunity to inflict further harm.”

Pressdee intentionally gave lethal and potentially lethal doses of insulin to patients at five care facilities in Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler and Westmoreland counties between 2020 and 2023.

Some of the patients didn’t even need insulin, the attorney general’s office said.

CNN asked Pressdee’s attorney about her motive but hasn’t received a reply.

Some of the victims’ relatives gave impact statements in court.

The daughter of victim Irene Simons said she’ll “never forgive” Pressdee for what she did.

“We’re angry and hurt that she disguised herself as a caring nurse,” Elizabeth Simons Ozella told CNN affiliate WTAE. “She took someone from this earth that she had no right to take, and she played God when she didn’t have that right.”

Pressdee admitted to “harming, with the intent to kill” the 19 patients, ages 43 to 104, the attorney general’s office said, according to a criminal complaint filed against the former nurse.

She would often administer insulin during the low-staffed night shift hours while working the medicine cart at the facilities, the criminal complaint stated.

“Pressdee often took steps to ensure her victims would expire prior to shift change so that they wouldn’t be sent to the hospital where her scheme could be discovered through medical testing such as C-peptide tests,” according to the criminal complaint.

Despite Pressdee’s hefty sentences this week, a sister of victim Nicholas Cymbol said, “There’s no justice for this.”

“She’s pure evil,” Melinda Brown said, according to WTAE. “We’ll get justice when she meets her maker.”

Officer Edsaul Mendoza Murders 12 Yr Old Boy

Edsaul Mendoza
Edsaul Mendoza

Former Philadelphia Police Officer Edsaul Mendoza was convicted of the murder of a unarmed twelve year old boy

According to court documents former Officer Edsaul Mendoza was working with three other Officers when a bullet would strike their vehicle. The Officers would give chase following twelve year old Thomas Siderio and a seventeen year old youth. The twelve year old would throw a gun away however Edsaul Mendoza would then shoot the twelve year old in the back causing his death

Former Officer Edsaul Mendoza was fired very shortly after the shooting and was charged with murder for Thomas Siderio poised no risk when he was shot and killed

Edsaul Mendoza would take a plead deal to the murder of Thomas Siderio and now faces up to forty years in prison when his sentencing takes place

Edsaul Mendoza Case

The former Philadelphia police officer who is accused of fatally shooting a 12-year-old boy in the back has been charged with murder, according to District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Edsaul Mendoza, 26, who was fired following the shooting of Thomas “TJ” Siderio, is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter and possessing an instrument of crime.

Police said four plainclothes South Task Force officers in an unmarked car were conducting surveillance on March 1 while responding to social media posts involving a stolen gun.

The officers allege they saw two young males, including one identified as Siderio, at 18th and Barbara streets. One of them was holding a gun.

The officers drove toward the two males, stopped a few feet away, then activated the red and blue emergency lights on their unmarked vehicle, police say.

According to police, that’s when the officers heard gunfire and the sound of glass shattering from the rear passenger window.

One of the officers was hit by shards of glass in his face and eyes. Police say the bullet went through the rear passenger window’s glass, hit the inner doorframe, then went through the passenger’s headrest before stopping in the vehicle’s headliner. Krasner said it was Siderio that fired at the car.

Two of the officers got out of the vehicle and fired at Siderio.

Police say Siderio was hit in his upper right back, with the bullet exiting from his left chest.

He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

According to the grand jury presentment, Mendoza fired a total of three shots.

The first shot was fired near 18th and Barbara, and the second shot was fired after Siderio discarded his gun, the grand jury presentment said.

That’s when Siderio stopped running and went to the ground, either because he tripped or was he was diving to the ground, according to the presentment.

Mendoza then approached Siderio without taking cover, Krasner said, in a way “completely inconsistent with Mendoza believing Siderio was armed.”

At this point, the grand jury presentment says, Mendoza was about 10 feet away from Siderio when he allegedly fired a third shot, killing Siderio.

Within a minute of the shooting, Mendoza told another officer that Siderio threw the gun, and pointed back to where it was located, according to the presentment.

“Thus, when Mendoza fired the third and fatal shot, he knew the 12-year-old, five-foot tall, 111-pound Thomas Siderio no longer had a gun and no ability to harm him,” Krasner said.

“But he fired a shot through his back nonetheless, killing him,” Krasner continued.

Krasner said much of the evidence was based on a video that has not been publicly released.

Court records show Mendoza surrendered Sunday and was denied bail.

The grandmother of Siderio feels justice is now in motion.

“I always supported our blue, but when cops are crooked, and don’t want to do their job right, they deserve to go to prison,” said Mary Siderio Henning

“I am very happy that he’s charged but now it’s a jury to decide,” she added.

The family said they are filing a civil suit against Mendoza, the city, and police department as the criminal case is just beginning.

“Videos, cameras, they don’t lie. The truth came out and I’m really happy,” said Siderio Henning.

A spokesperson for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 said the union plans to provide an attorney for the officer.
