Christian Sims Case

Christian Vernon Sims pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to first degree murder.

Sims received 35 years in prison for the fatal shooting of his grandmother, Annie Lois Sims, in December 2014.

“Domestic homicide cases are challenging to prosecute,” said Lamar County District Attorney Gary Young. “The emotional toll on a family is heightened when the offender and the victim are both members of the same family. Finding a resolution that is acceptable to all parties is almost impossible. Mike Sims, husband of the victim, would have preferred a longer prison term but relied on the experience of our office to negotiate an acceptable plea.”

Annie Lois Sims, 66, a former North Lamar teacher, was found dead in her Powderly home with multiple gunshot wounds a week before Christmas 2014.

Christian Sims and Morrison were arrested at a Motel 6 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, later that night. The teens waived extradition and were returned to Lamar County on Dec. 23, 2014.

Christian Sims was represented by Jason Parrish and Gena Bunn of Homes and Moore.

He will remain in Lamar County Jail until he is transferred to prison, according to First Assistant District Attorney Jill Drake.

Charges are still pending against Ashley Morrison for burglary of a habitation and first degree murder in a related case. She remains in Lamar County Jail.

Jared Dicus Murders Anggy Diaz

Jared Dicus is a killer from Texas who was convicted of the murder of his new wife Anggy Diaz

According to court documents the inlaws of Anggy Diaz would find her decapitated body in their home and would immediately called police. Jared Dicus would immediately become the main suspect and he would soon be arrested. Officers would later tell the media that police had gone to the couple’s home in the previous months but nothing to this level of violence

Jared Dicus would attempt to go after the mental health defense however he would be declared competent by Texas doctors

Jared Dicus would ultimately plead guilty to murder and would be sentenced to forty years in prison

Jared Dicus Case

A Texas man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to the grisly 2023 murder of his wife.

On Wednesday, July 31, Waller County Criminal District Attorney Sean G. Whittmore announced that Jared James Dicus entered a plea agreement regarding the murder of his wife, Anggy Diaz.

The couple had only been married for three months when Diaz’s in-laws found the 21-year-old’s body dismembered in their home, which was reportedly owned by the in-laws.

In a news briefing at the time, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said it was Discus’ father who “immediately called” the police after seeing Diaz’s body. Discus allegedly confessed to killing her while being interviewed by police.

Dicus will serve his 40-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division, Whittmore said in a press release.

During the pre-trial phase of the case, concerns about Dicus’ mental capacity were raised. However, a court-ordered examination determined he was competent to stand trial.

Due to the terms of his plea agreement, Dicus waived his right to appeal the verdict, the sentence and any potential defense to prosecution, including attempting to use an insanity defense at a later time, per the release.

Diaz’s family was made aware of the terms before the plea agreement was finalized.

Dicus will be eligible for parole in 2043. However, the district attorney notes that “eligibility for parole is not an automatic grant of parole.”

At the time of Diaz’s death, Guidry said police had been dispatched to the former couple’s residence before, but it was “nothing to this effect and to this level of violence.”

The sheriff added that the crime would affect both families moving forward.

“The best you can say is that’s the world we live in today. It’s a gruesome scene. And both sides of these families are gonna be altered by it, either way, suspect and the victim’s,” Guidry said.

“It is gruesome. It’s a gruesome crime. Hopefully, everything turns out to end up the best way it can at this point,” he continued.

Multiple reports stated that Diaz had been decapitated.

During a press conference last year, Guidry said officers were met with “a portion of a body, dismembered, and a residence that was covered in blood.”

“Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence,” the district attorney said on Wednesday.

“Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered, we will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the perpetrators that here, we fight for our victims,” Whittmore said Wednesday. “The DA’s office also thanks the Waller County Sheriff’s Office for their thorough investigation and their service to the victim’s family and to the people of Waller County.”

James Sotelo Murders Corey Thompson In Texas

James Sotelo is a teen killer from Texas who was convicted of the murder of Corey Thompson

According to court documents Corey Thompson was spending the night at the Sotelo family home. When Corey attempted to go to bed he would be shot over a dozen times by James Sotelo for apparently no reason. One of the bullets would go through the wall and strike James brother in the face. The brother would survive the shooting

James Sotelo would be arrested, convicted and sentenced to forty years in prison

James Sotelo Case

A Cypress-area man who killed a high school friend in a late-night shooting was sentenced to 40 in prison on Friday, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“There was absolutely no reason for this cold-blooded murder, so we know this man is a danger to the community,” Ogg said. “In fact, after he was freed on bond for murder, he continued his criminal ways and was rearrested for carrying a gun.”

James Michael Sotelo, 21, was sentenced by a judge to 40 years in prison for the murder of Corey Thompson, a friend from high school who was spending the night at the Sotelo family home, on March 20, 2021.

Sotelo fired a 9mm semi-automatic handgun at least 13 times as his friend was apparently trying to go to bed about 3 a.m. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Investigators found that Thompson was hit at least 11 times, several in the back. At least one bullet also went through the bedroom wall and hit Sotelo’s brother in the face as he slept. The brother survived the shooting, and Sotelo was also convicted of deadly conduct for shooting him.

Assistant District Attorney Kyle Tucker prosecuted the case in a six-day trial in November. A Harris County jury convicted Sotelo, who opted to have his punishment determined by the judge after a pre-sentence investigation. During a hearing on Friday, eight months after the jury conviction, the judge sentenced Sotelo to 40 years in prison for the murder and two years for the deadly conduct. Those sentences will run concurrently.

“According to the defendant, he wasn’t intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs, which makes deliberately pulling the trigger 13 times that much worse,” Tucker said. “We asked the judge for a sentence of at least 50 years because this defendant doesn’t care about what he did, he did not have any remorse for the victim and there weren’t any mitigating factors.”

Sotelo must serve at least half of the prison sentence before he will be eligible for parole.

Emma Presler Murders Devin Graham

Emma Presler
Emma Presler

Emma Presler is a teen killer from Texas who would douse a man with a flammable liquid and set him on fire

According to court documents Emma Presler would go to the home of Deven Graham and would soak the man with gasoline then set him on fire. Deven Graham would suffer burns to ninety percent of his body and would die from his injuries. Deven girlfriend would suffer burns to fifty percent of her body however would thankfully survive her injuries

Emma Presler who had previously been arrested for another murder linked to a shooting , the charges would ultimately be dropped, would be arrested and she would plead guilty to the murder to escape the death penalty and would be sentenced to thirty years in prison

Emma Presler Case

A Houston woman who soaked a Kingwood man and woman with gasoline and then set them ablaze pleaded guilty to first-degree murder to avoid a capital murder trial and a potential death sentence.
On Wednesday, Emma Lou Presler, 22, of Houston appeared with her attorney, Gerald Borque, in the 435th District Court, before Judge Patty Maginnis. Presler is sentenced to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The horrific act occurred at the victims’ Kingwood residence at 2046 Aspen Glade Drive. Most people are aware the City of
Houston annexed Kingwood years ago. A lesser-known fact is that part of Kingwood, technically Houston, is in Montgomery County. This results in some confusion for residents, first responders, and sometimes dispatchers. In Presler’s case, Houston Police responded and conducted the investigation, but the case was filed in Montgomery County and assigned to a district court in Conroe.

According to the Complaint by HPD Officer Windham, Presler doused 33-year-old Devin Graham and 26-year-old Karissa Lindross with gasoline and ignited the man and woman, as well as the home. Hospital staff told an HPD Arson Investigator Graham was burned over about 90 percent of his body and Lindross sustained severe burns over 50 percent of her body.

A neighbor told investigators around 9:35 p.m., Lindross ran to his home smelling of gasoline, with her burned skin falling off of her. He said he let Lindross into his house to try and help her, and Lindross told him a man and woman had thrown gasoline on her lit her on fire.

Another neighbor said he was outside sitting in his truck when he heard an explosion, and looked up to see huge flames from the home where the attack occurred. The man said he heard Graham screaming for help and went to him. Graham, he said, told him “they tried to kill him.”

Actually, “they” succeeded in killing him. According to the Complaint, a little less than 48 hours after being burned alive, Graham died.

Another man, who was staying at Graham’s home at the time of the murder, told investigators he was there when Presler and a man he didn’t know arrived. He said she and Graham were arguing in the living room, and he went into the kitchen. The man said he then smelled gasoline, just before a fiery explosion occurred, and ran outside. The witness said Graham and Lindross then ran outside, and both of them were on fire. He said he used a garden hose to extinguish them and he left when medics arrived. The witness also identified Presler from a photo lineup.

On August 16, 2021, the investigator interviewed Lindross in the hospital. She was unable to speak, but was coherent and could nod or shake her head in response to questions. She revealed she knew Presler for more than a year and positively identified a photo of her.

The investigation revealed the gas can kept in the home’s garage was used to pour gas on her and Graham, and Presler then used a cigarette lighter to ignite the gasoline. Since Presler’s actions resulted in Graham’s death, and she was committing arson at the same time, the murder could have landed her on death row, but Presler decided not to risk it.

It remains unclear what role the man mentioned by both victims and the uninjured witness played. The victims had identified Presler as the person who soaked them with gasoline and started the fire. If the man was ever identified, it’s not mentioned in the complaint, nor is it mentioned whether he faces any charges.

Emma Presler remains in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting transfer to a state prison

According to court documents Tyler Roenz and his mother Michelle Roenz were reported missing from a family member. Authorities would find the car that belonged to Michelle Roenz driving through Oklahoma and Kansas. When Officers attempted to pull the car over the vehicle would quickly speed off and after a nine mile chase it would crash into the back of a semi trailer.

Officers would find sixteen year old Tyler Roenz behind the steering well and his mother dead in the back seat. According to an autopsy report Michelle Roenz died from blunt force trauma and strangulation

Tyler Roenz would be extradited back to Texas where he would ultimately plead guilty to the murder of his mother and tampering with evidence and would be sentenced to forty years in prison with no chance of parole for twenty years

Tyler Roenz Case

19-year-old Tyler Roenz was sentenced to 40 years behind bars, according to Harris County Disrict Attorney Kim Ogg.

“This is an awful tragedy for this family,” Ogg said. “It was important that this defendant took responsibility for what he did, and now he will spend decades in prison for his actions.”

According to a release, 49-year-old Michelle Roenz was killed while the two were at home in October 2022.

Officials said he later put her body in the trunk of a family car and drove north.

A family member arriving at the house after Roenz left suspected foul play and contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office about the mother and son missing with the car.

Authorities said after using license plate readers, they were able to track Roenz down as he drove through Oklahoma and Kansas.

A day after the murder of his mother, he was arrested in Nebraska by a state highway patrol trooper who spotted the car.

A Nebraska medical examiner determined that Michelle Roenz died from blunt-force trauma to the head and strangulation.

Roenz also pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence in exchange for a sentence of 20 years. Two other felonies were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

According to a release, Roenz must serve at least half of the prison sentence before he is eligible for parole. He also can’t appeal the convictions or the prison sentences.
