Timothy Evans Case

A Hancock County jury has sentenced Timothy Evans to death for the killing of his landlord, Wenda Holling.

WLOX-TV reported that it took the jury two hours Thursday to find Evans guilty of the 2010 crime. He was convicted on capital murder in the robbery and strangulation of the 70-year-old woman.

The 56-year-old Evans had been a tenant at her home in Kiln.

Investigators say Evans rented a room from Wenda Holling at her home in Kiln. The landlord went missing Jan. 5, 2010

Her family had reported her missing, and authorities say Evans told investigators that he thought the victim had gone away with friends. Less than a month later, her body was found on a roadway in Harrison County.

Investigators say Evans later confessed to strangling Holling with his bare hands after she caught him trying to steal a bank card out of her purse.
