Tucker McGee Case

The man convicted of murdering Weatherford teenager JaRay Wilson has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

“Jaray can finally rest in peace,” her mother Jara said.

Tucker McGee appeared before a Custer County Judge at 9:30 a.m. for formal sentencing Monday where he discovered his fate.

“If it had been 10 days earlier, we’d be asking for something different,” Wilson’s father Rodney said.

McGee was just shy of his 18th birthday when Wilson was murdered. Thus, the prosecution couldn’t seek the death penalty.

“We wanted more,” Jara Wilson said. “But by the law, yes, we did get justice.”

McGee was found guilty in March after a week of testimony and just two hours of jury deliberation. The jury recommended a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Monday, the judge agreed as McGee will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

“Our daughter didn’t get a second chance,” Rodney Wilson said. “She didn’t get to voice her [omit] opinion about it.”

Wilson was missing for 14 months before her body was discovered in a rural area north of Weatherford.

“He took everything form us, everything,” Jara Wilson said. “We will never be grandparents, we’ll never see our daughter grow up.”

Witnesses say McGee was smoking synthetic marijuana known as K-2, before he shot Wilson twice in the head. Her family says this has been a long ordeal, but they are grateful they can now begin the healing process.

“A lot of people have been messed up on drugs,” Jara Wilson said. “That’s not an excuse to commit murder.”

Also on Monday, Cody Godfrey was given seven years probation for accessory to murder after the fact as part of a plea agreement. Godfrey admitted he was with McGee and JaRay smoking “K2” on October 14, 2012.

“[Godfrey’s] testimony was important,” prosecutor Angela Marsee said. “Without that, I don’t know if we ever would’ve found Jaray Wilson.”

He was the first person to come forward after 14 months and admit to investigators he was there when JaRay was shot in the head. Godfrey said he watched through a rear view mirror as McGee fired the shot that he said JaRay “never saw coming.”

Caleb McLemore was also charged and found guilty of accessory after the fact in connection to Wilson’s murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in late 2014.

Tucker McGee News

A man convicted of killing JaRay Wilson has been re-sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Tucker McGee, 23, was re-sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole June 18. McGee was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in April 2015 after being found guilty of murdering 16-year-old JaRay Wilson.

In Oklahoma, judges are unable to sentence minors to life without parole. At the time of Wilson’s murder, McGee was 10 days from turning 18. Because he wasn’t 18 at the time of the murder, McGee’s sentencing got overturned, leading to Monday’s decision. McGee will not be eligible for parole for 38 years.

Wilson disappeared in Weatherford in October 2012. For 14 months her family searched, before her body was discovered. Wilson’s family fought for a bill to pass through the Oklahoma Legislature giving judge’s the ability to sentence minors to life in prison without the possibility of parole. That bill, SB 1221, was sent to the governor, but vetoed.

Charged in connection with the murder of Weatherford teen, JaRay Wilson, Tucker McGee was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

More than two years after Wilson went missing, her family said they’ve finally gained some closure.

Tucker McGee was 10 days short of turning 18 the day he killed JaRay Wilson in October of 2012. He could have been facing the death penalty, but since he was 17 at the time, he received the maximum sentence of life without parole

JaRay Wilson’s mother said she knows exactly how long it’s taken to get to this day.

“Two years, six months, and six days,” said Jara Wilson, JaRay’s mother.

Wilson’s family and friends wept as the judge sentenced Tucker McGee, but McGee remained stone-faced and emotionless.

“He took everything from us. Everything. Our only child. We’ll never be grandparents. We’ll never get to see her grow up. Know what she could have been,” said Wilson.

For 14 months JaRay’s family searched for their missing daughter.

McGee’s defense attorney said his client was high on K2 and hallucinating when he killed her.

“A lot of people have been messed up on drugs and they didn’t murder someone,” she said.

But in the swift 15 minute sentencing, the judge followed the jury’s recommendation of life without parole.

“JaRay can finally rest in peace. That was the first thing I thought of,” said Jara Wilson.

As part of his plea agreement in exchange for his testimony against McGee, Cody Godfrey pleaded guilty to Accessory after the Fact Monday. Godfrey admitted to moving JaRay’s body after her murder.

“His testimony was very important to the case. Without his testimony I don’t know if we would have ever found JaRay Wilson,” said prosecutor Angela Marsee.

In January 2014, Godfrey led investigators to the area where Wilson’s body was found buried in a shallow grave. Her skull was cracked, and had what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

“She’s not a victim. She’s a person that deserved way more than she got,” said JaRay’s mother.

Caleb Mclemore was also charged with Accessory after the Fact for his role in the murder. He’s currently serving a 25-year sentence.
