Christian Sims Case

Christian Vernon Sims pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to first degree murder.

Sims received 35 years in prison for the fatal shooting of his grandmother, Annie Lois Sims, in December 2014.

“Domestic homicide cases are challenging to prosecute,” said Lamar County District Attorney Gary Young. “The emotional toll on a family is heightened when the offender and the victim are both members of the same family. Finding a resolution that is acceptable to all parties is almost impossible. Mike Sims, husband of the victim, would have preferred a longer prison term but relied on the experience of our office to negotiate an acceptable plea.”

Annie Lois Sims, 66, a former North Lamar teacher, was found dead in her Powderly home with multiple gunshot wounds a week before Christmas 2014.

Christian Sims and Morrison were arrested at a Motel 6 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, later that night. The teens waived extradition and were returned to Lamar County on Dec. 23, 2014.

Christian Sims was represented by Jason Parrish and Gena Bunn of Homes and Moore.

He will remain in Lamar County Jail until he is transferred to prison, according to First Assistant District Attorney Jill Drake.

Charges are still pending against Ashley Morrison for burglary of a habitation and first degree murder in a related case. She remains in Lamar County Jail.
