Axel Rudakubana News

Axel Rudakubana has been jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 52 years for the murder of three girls in Southport on 29 July 2024, the attempted murder of 10 others (eight children and two adults) and for possession of a knife in a public place, production of a biological toxin namely ricin contrary to Section 1 of the Biological Weapons Act 1974 and possession of information, namely a PdF file entitled ‘Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al-Qaeda Training Manual, of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing, or preparing, an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Axel Rudakubana, 18 years, formerly of Old School Close, Banks pleaded guilty to all 16 charges against him on Monday 20 January, and was sentenced today at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was convicted of the murder of Alice Da Silva Aguiar, nine; Bebe King, six; and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven.

Rudakubana was additionally convicted of 10 charges of the attempted murder of eight children and two adults, and one charge of possession of a knife – all relating to the incident at Hart Street, Southport on 29 July 2024.

Axel Rudakubana was today given 13 life sentences and will serve a minimum of 52 years in prison for the offences.

On the morning of 29 July last year, Axel Rudakubana booked a taxi to the Hart Space where 26 children were attending a Taylor Swift themed yoga and dance workshop.

He was carrying a knife bought online days earlier and after leaving the taxi without paying, he entered the building and carried out the appalling attack.

A thorough investigation at the home of Axel Rudakubana led to the discovery of weapons, the ingredients necessary to make ricin and evidence that he had searched and viewed violent material online from a number of sources as well as downloading an academic study of an Al-Qaeda training manual.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Pye, the Senior Investigating Officer of this investigation said: “Axel Rudakubana has been sentenced for his cowardly and terrifying attack on the young girls at the Hart Space on 29 July.

“Although no outcome at court could possibly ease the pain and trauma of their families, I hope that knowing Rudakubana will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison will bring them some comfort.

“His sustained and ruthless attack took away the lives of three beautiful little girls, Bebe, Elsie and Alice, and the thoughts of everyone at Merseyside Police remain with their families. Our thoughts are also with the young girls who suffered serious injuries, and all of those who were traumatised by what they saw on that morning.

“The incident also impacted on the community of Southport and has been felt across the country. This was the most harrowing, large-scale investigation that our force has ever dealt with and I want to praise the commitment, dedication, and sheer determination of the investigation team who have never had to deal with anything like this before.

“Having committed the most heinous of crimes, Rudakubana then tried at various points of the process to frustrate justice, by remaining silent and resisting co-operation.

“That he chose to plead guilty on the first day of trial at least spared the families and all those affected a trial that they had until that moment feared would compound their grief and distress further.

“Even today, he had to be removed from the dock after repeated attempts to disrupt the sentencing hearing by shouting as the prosecution tried to lay out the details of his awful crimes.

“I am pleased to see that – thanks to the determination of everyone involved in the legal process – all his efforts to frustrate the process were in vain and he has now faced justice for his terrible actions.

“I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those first responders who went to the scene that day and were confronted with unimaginable horrors. Officers went into the building to detain the suspect, emergency services tended to the wounded and members of the public bravely assisted with efforts to help those inside. All will no doubt still be affected by what they witnessed for the rest of their lives.

“I would also like to thank the Investigation Team for their steadfast determination to painstakingly go through every piece of evidence recovered in this investigation to make sure we were able to present the CPS with a comprehensive file of evidence to ensure that justice was done for the victims and their families. I think I can speak for the whole team when I say that this is probably the most harrowing case we have collectively worked on and our thoughts for the family have helped to keep us grounded and focussed despite the traumatic nature of what we were all dealing with.

“I want to thank Counter Terrorism Policing for their unwavering support and advice and the CPS for their support and guidance to ensure we could get justice for Bebe, Elsie and Alice, the injured girls and adults and those who were traumatised by what they saw in the room that day, but miraculously managed to escape.

“Finally, although Rudakubana has been sentenced to prison today, the pain felt by those families will continue for the rest of their lives and I want to pay tribute to Bebe, Elsie and Alice, who will never be forgotten.

“Their families, and those of all the children and adults affected, have behaved with incredible dignity and courage since that dreadful day, and our thoughts are with them today and always.”

The families of Alice and Elsie had victim impact statements read out in court.

The family of Elsie Dot Stancombe addressed Axel Rudakubana directly in theirs: “The nature of your actions is beyond contempt. You deliberately chose that place, fully aware that there would be no parents present, fully aware that those girls were vulnerable and unable to protect themselves.

“This was not an act of impulse; it was premeditated. You chose that place, that time, and those circumstances, knowing that when we arrived, all we would see was the aftermath of the devastation caused. We were robbed of the opportunity to protect our girls.

“Though you have stolen our daughter from us, you will not take away our determination to honour her memory. We will carry her love, positivity and her legacy forward, no matter how much pain you have caused.

“There is nothing that can undo the damage he has caused, but knowing that he will never be free to cause any harm to vulnerable children again, would give us some small measure of justice.

“Perhaps he will have opportunity to contemplate the fear and terror he inflicted upon those girls and sincerely want the consequences to reflect the irreparable damage he has inflicted.”

The family of Alice De Silva Aguiar said: “Alice was the best baby anyone could have as a first-time parent; slept long nights, peacefully quiet and always smiley. As she grew up, we really took notice of what a wonderful girl she was turning out to be.

“Alice was always a very kind girl, who valued equality and fairness at the core. A world of possibilities awaited her, a best friend anyone could ask for. We were so lucky and privileged to have her. Every day felt like a gift. Alice was a beautiful girl, perfect in every way; loved her school, her friends, music, dance, colourful pens and friendship bracelets. She loved Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter.

“She was a strong and confident pre-teen with a world of dreams and unlimited potential. We just wanted to see her happy, and that was the easiest job in the world.

“Our bond was very strong, the love in the family was pure. Life was a bliss.

“Our dream girl has been taken away in such a horrible, undeserving way that it shattered our souls. We’re heartbroken that we can never help Alice fulfil her dreams, we can’t hug her anymore, brush her hair, take her to school through her beloved Botanic Gardens. We can no longer wake up with Alice’s happy smile, being playful or get a morning kiss and hug from her. The simple joys of life can no longer be enjoyed because it feels like there’s no point.

“Living without Alice is not living at all. It’s a state of permanent numbness. We can’t see her pictures or videos; they take us back to a time when we were so happy and now we’re in constant pain.”

In sentencing Axel Rudakubana, Mr Justice Goose said: “There were 26 children at the party, all of them happy and enjoying themselves. He targeted those children for the horrific, extreme violence he was intent upon. It was such extreme violence of the utmost seriousness it was difficult to comprehend.

“I’m sure Rudakubana had a settled and determined intention to kill and would have killed all 26 children.

“Many who have heard the evidence and have seen the CCTV recordings might describe what he did as evil. Who could dispute it? On any view it was at least the most extreme, shocking and exceptionally serious crime.

“The harm that Axel Rudakubana caused to each family, each child and to the community has been profound and permanent. The families of Bebe, Elsie and Alice will never recover. The lives of the families of the children who he tried to murder will never be the same.

“It’s likely he will never be released and will spend the rest of his life in custody.”

Jia Xin Teo would give birth in secret and wrap the newborn in plastic, stuffed it into a cereal box and placed the box into a suitcase.

Jia Xin Teo would go to the hospital and tried to tell the doctors and nurses that she had not recently given birth however she would eventually tell the medical personnel what she did with the newborn

Jia Xin Teo would be arrested and charged with murder

At trial Jia Xin Teo would attempt to put forward a mental health defense telling the judge that voices drove her to harm and kill the newborn however that defense would fall flat and she would be convicted of murder

Jia Xin Teo will be sentenced at a later date

Jia Xin Teo Case

The Warwick Crown Court in Coventry, UK, has convicted Malaysian Jia Xin Teo of murder over her actions in placing her newborn child in a cereal box and hiding both in a suitcase.

According to the BBC, Teo arrived from Malaysia to study at Coventry University, and shortly after gave birth at her home on 4 March, hiding the baby’s existence even from her flatmates.

During the trial, Teo’s defence argued that she heard voices that told her to harm the baby, but this did not convince the judge.

According to the prosecutors, Teo hid her pregnancy from all around her the entire time, ostensibly over fears it would disrupt her studies

She had visited a hospital on March 5 where she displayed signs of having birthed a child, but denied this initially.

After further questioning, she confessed and told the authorities what she had done to her child.

Investigators following up on her admission found the child as she described, inside a cereal box, wrapped in plastic and placed inside her luggage.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that Teo’s actions were deliberate and that the baby had been born alive and could have survived. Despite having opportunities to seek help, Teo chose to give birth in secret and hide the infant.

West Midlands Police were alerted when hospital staff became suspicious of Teo’s condition. The CPS condemned her actions, noting that she had lied to medical professionals, friends, and the police to conceal her baby.

The CPS said Teo had the chance to get help but instead carried out her pregnancy and childbirth in secrecy, ultimately causing the baby’s death. Teo will be sentenced at a later date.

Nicholas Metson Murders Holly Bramley

Nicholas Metson is a killer from the UK who would be convicted of the murder of his wife Holly Bramley

According to court documents Holly Bramley was thinking of divorcing Nicholas Metson for a variety of reasons however Metson was not going to allow that to happen

Nicholas Metson would stab to death Holly Bramley then proceeded to cut her body into over two hundred pieces

Eventually police would find the majority of the pieces however the admit that finding all of the pieces is unlikely

Nicholas Metson would be arrested, plead guilty to murder and would be sentenced to life in prison

Nicholas Metson Case

An “evil monster” who stabbed his wife to death and then dismembered her body before dumping her remains in a river days later has been jailed for life.

Holly Bramley’s body was cut into more than 200 pieces and parts were found in the River Witham in March 2023.

Nicholas Metson, who admitted murder, was handed a minimum term of 19 years and 316 days at Lincoln Crown Court.

His friend, Joshua Hancock, who helped dispose of Ms Bramley’s remains almost a week later has also been jailed.

He was sentenced to three years and three months in prison and was isssued a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

Sentencing 28-year-old Metson, of Shuttleworth House, Lincoln, His Honour Judge Simon Hirst told him: “The cause of death cannot be established given how you treated Holly’s body after you killed her.”

Police divers recovered 224 remains of Ms Bramley’s body after they were kept hidden in the couple’s Shuttleworth House flat, but some of her body parts were never found, the court heard.

The couple met in 2016 and later married in 2021 but were on the verge of separating when Metson, who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD), carried out the murder, prosecutors had said.

On 17 March 2023 Metson had stabbed his 26-year-old wife multiple times in the bedroom before moving to the bathroom where she was dismembered.

Her remains were then stored in the kitchen larder for nearly a week before they were disposed of in the River Witham at Bassingham, the court heard.

Moments before the murder, Metson restrained his wife “in a headlock” but she bit his arm “in a desperate attempt to escape his grasp”, the judge said.

The judge told Metson: “The number of [body] parts was far beyond necessary to remove Holly from your flat, and is not excusable by your autistic spectrum disorder.

“The fact that some parts of Holly remained missing I consider it to be an extremely aggravating factor.”

His said Metson’s failure to not give “any adequate explanation” for how and why he had killed his wife, then dismembered and hid her body “must have caused continuing agony and anguish for Holly’s family and friends”.

The court heard Metson had told “a pack of lies” to police when they visited the flat on 24 March 2023 after a report of a concern for Ms Bramley’s welfare.

In the days after the killing, Metson searched the internet for “how to dispose of a dead body” and messaged his wife’s family and friends using her phone and social media accounts “confessing she had treated [Metson] badly”, the judge said.

He paid Hancock, a school friend who also has ASD and learning difficulties, £100 to help him dispose of her remains, which Metson had placed in plastics bags and dumped in the river. They were subsequently spotted by a passer-by in the evening of 25 March.

Metson, who had prior convictions for offences against former partners in 2013, 2016 and 2017, previously admitted conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by disposing of Ms Bramley’s body.

He originally denied murder but later pleaded guilty when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court last month.

Hancock, also 28, of Walnut Close, Waddington, pleaded guilty to obstructing the Lincolnshire Coroner in the execution of his duty by helping to dispose of Ms Bramley’s body and an unrelated sex offence.

Sentencing Hancock, the judge said he was “motivated by money”.

The Evil Family Annihilator that Received a Nations Harshest Punishment...

Damien Bendall Case

A grieving mum has described the man who murdered her pregnant daughter and grandchildren as a “psychopath” and “master manipulator”.

Damien Bendall killed Terri Harris, her children John Bennett, 13, and Lacey Bennett, 11, with a claw hammer at their home in Derbyshire in 2021.

Bendall also murdered Lacey’s 11-year-old friend Connie Gent.

Ms Harris’ mother, Angie Smith, said “a light has gone out in our lives” after their deaths.

Speaking to the BBC, Ms Smith, 57, said Bendall initially seemed “charming” when he and Ms Harris started a relationship, but that her daughter’s behaviour began to change.

“He was always with her,” she said. “There wasn’t a time he wasn’t with her. It was just constant. She started to change the way she dressed. She was quieter.

“She’s always been a tomboy. Always. But when she started going with him it was always tight shorts and low-cut tops. Her hair became bright red.

“It was as if he was parading her round.”

Bendall, from Swindon, who had a history of serious and violent offences dating back to 2004, went on to kill Ms Harris, 35, and the children at the family’s home in Killamarsh. He also raped Lacey.

He was convicted of the four murders in December 2022 and was given a whole-life order, meaning he will never be released from prison.

Weeks before the murders, he was given a suspended sentence for arson, which included a curfew requirement at Ms Harris’ home after being deemed a low risk to partners and children.

An inquest, held last month, heard Bendall had previously said he would kill them if his relationship with Ms Harris “went bad”.

The probation service accepted 51 separate failings at the inquests, held at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court, and accepted a catalogue of missed opportunities and lack of scrutiny concerning Bendall’s supervision going back several years.

Ms Smith said hearing of those failings felt “just like being punched in the stomach”.

“We know he was a psychopath. We know he was a master manipulator,” she said.

“Going through the inquest, it was like no-one talks to each other and no-one listens. That’s pretty scary.

“They say they will make changes now, but in a year or so you’ll go back and look again and they won’t be made.”

Ms Smith said her suspicions about Bendall had prompted her to consider using the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme – known as Clare’s Law – named after Clare Wood, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2009.

The scheme is a means of letting people find out from police if their partner has a history of domestic violence.

However, she changed her mind because she was worried the police would send their response to her daughter and Bendall might find out.

“I realised the information would probably go to my daughter and he’s there all the time,” Ms Smith said.

“I thought ‘I can’t do that’. Would I put her in more danger? Would I put the kids in more danger? So I didn’t do it.”
‘Not fit for purpose’

She and one of Ms Harris’ other relatives, Jade Donovan, are now trying to get Clare’s Law changed, so the police can send a response to a close relative.

They also want to make Clare’s Law application forms simpler and easier to find on police force websites.

They said they had meetings with ministers and Home Office officials about their campaign.

Ms Donovan said: “The [meetings] with the ministers were not that good. They basically told us Clare’s Law does work and that was it.

“The Home Office said the form was going to change and it would be consistent to all police forces.

“But that is still not happening and this form is still not being sent to different forces.

“Clare’s Law does work to a certain part but it’s not fit for purpose and there is still work to be done.”

Ms Donovan added: “Terri was just an amazing human. Everything about her was just for her children. She did everything for her kids.”

The Home Office did not respond to a request for a comment.

The Tragic Murder of 14-Year-Old Jermaine Cools | Murdered at First Sight

Marques Walker Case

A teenager has been jailed for the murder of a “defenceless” 14-year-old boy.

Marques Walker, 17, can now be identified as the killer of Jermaine Cools, who at the age of 14 was the youngest victim of a fatal knife crime in 2021.

Jermaine was stabbed as he lay on the ground outside a chicken shop in Croydon, south London, on 18 November that year.

Marques Walker was sentenced to life imprisonment today, with a minimum of 19 years behind bars, minus the 497 days he has already spent in custody.

Walker’s sentencing is the first time a juvenile murderer has been handed down their punishment at the Old Bailey on television in England and Wales following a successful legal challenge by the media.

At the time of the killing, Marques Walker, then aged 16, was on bail for carrying a large knife, the Old Bailey was told.

Earlier this year, Walker pleaded guilty to Jermaine’s murder and possessing a knife.

Judge Sarah Munro KC said he had earlier said he was not guilty but later changed his plea.

The impact of “defenceless” Jermaine’s violent death was “immeasurable”, the judge added during Walker’s sentencing.

She said Walker had a large machete hidden under his clothing on the night of the killing.

The judge added he and his group were clearly “geared up” for violence.

Walker stabbed Jermaine “mercilessly” seven times and “intended to kill” his victim, the judge said.

The murderer fled the area and went into hiding for six weeks. Police found him by chance during another search.

Walker’s repeated possession of knives was mentioned a number of times by the judge during his sentencing.

She said in her view, Walker poses a risk to the public.

Ahead of his sentencing, a joint application was made by the PA news agency, The Times, The Sun and The Daily Mail newspapers to lift a court order banning Walker from being identified.

A separate bid was made for permission to film Walker’s sentencing and broadcast the footage on news channels and online.

Outlining her decision to allow proceedings to be filmed, Judge Munro said: “The serious nature and increasing prevalence of knife crime, knife-related homicide and violent crime…; the consequent need for deterrence; the promotion of public confidence that the criminal justice system is addressing the problem; and the proximity of the defendant’s 18th birthday… all outweigh any minimal impact upon the welfare of defendant.”

‘It can be anyone’s child’

Following the sentencing, Jermaine’s mother Lorraine Dudek issued an emotional plea to tackle knife crime, saying: “It can be anyone’s child”.

She also described the failure to deal with Walker’s knife-carrying habit as a “missed opportunity”.

“Had it been addressed earlier he would not have had the opportunity to go out to kill,” she said.

“Young males get caught with a knife, the knife gets confiscated. Within an hour they get another one from Snapchat or social media.”

Ms Dudek continued: “Stop and search has its place and it’s very, very good for removing weapons but the follow-up has to be there.

“When Jermaine got stopped and searched I was happy about it. Some parents complain about their children being stopped and searched – that could be the deterrent that stops them.”

ermaine’s father, Julius Cools, described Walker’s 19-year sentence as a “joke” and blamed the “system” for his son’s killing.

“That boy, he killed my son… my son can never come back. And he only get 19 years… that’s a joke”.

He said Jermaine was “everything” and a “happy little boy”, adding, “he didn’t deserve to die like this”.

“I think the police let us down, because that boy should never be out after he was arrested three times with a knife.

“So I blame the system for my son’s killing”.

Jermaine died following a fight involving a number of people on London Road, near West Croydon station.

Walker was caught on CCTV calmly walking towards the fight and drawing a large knife from his coat.

Jermaine appeared to fall over and the youth ran towards him while he was on the ground.

Walker was seen to repeatedly lunge at Jermaine as his victim frantically tried to avoid being stabbed.

Jermaine received multiple stab wounds and the defendant ran off from the scene with the knife.

A member of the public approached Jermaine, who was bleeding heavily, and helped him into a car and drove him to hospital in Croydon, where he later died.

A post-mortem found he had suffered seven stab wounds to his body, with the fatal wound to his chest piercing a lung.
