According to court documents Jessie Wise had already spent a lengthy period of time for murder and was on parole and employed as a custodian at an apartment building. Wise would go to the apartment of Geraldine McDonald and asked for thirty dollars and when she refused he would strike her with a pipe wrench several times causing her death and then robbed her
