Patrick Hannon Case

Convicted killer Patrick Hannon was executed Wednesday night for the murders of two Tampa men in 1991.

Family members of Robert Carter, 28, and Brandon Snider, 27, were on hand to witness Hannon’s execution at Florida State Prison in Raiford.

Hannon was convicted by a unanimous jury, finding he played a significant role in the murders of Carter and Snider.

Prosecutors say Hannon, and two other men, Ron Richardson and James Acker, were out for revenge when they went to the Tampa-area apartment shared by Carter and Snider in 1991. Once there, prosecutors say Snider was stabbed multiple times before Hannon sliced his throat, nearly decapitating him. Carter reportedly ran to hide in an upstairs bedroom, but was dragged out and then shot to death by Hannon.

Nearly three decades later, Hannon laid strapped down to a gurney inside the execution chamber at Florida State Prison in Raiford.

CBS12’S Greg Angel was the only local reporter selected as a media witness.

In a room, separated by a large glass, 18 other witnesses watched, including unnamed family members of Carter and Snider.

They could see Hannon restrained to the gurney, covered by a white sheet, only his forearm exposed where the IV was connected to his vein. That is where a lethal cocktail of drugs would be pumped into Hannon’s body, killing him.

After exhausting all legal appeals, and being denied by the United States Supreme Court for a stay of execution, Hannon was offered a final statement.

“I hope this execution gives the Carter family some peace,” Hannon said. “I wish I could have done more to save Robert.”

A relative of one of the victims blurted out an expletive.

Unable to hear the response, Hannon continued.

“I didn’t kill anybody, but Ron Richardson and James Acker did. Robbie was a good man, and a good friend, and I let him down when he needed me most,” Hannon said. “As far as Brandon Snider, I think that everyone knows what he did to get this ball rolling. I’m sorry things worked out like this, the way it did.”

Hannon’s final few words solicited another verbal response from a female family member of one of the victims, who then waved in a “bye bye” motion as the lethal injection process began.

Twelve minutes’ after it began, Patrick Hannon was dead, his sentenced carried out at 8:40 p.m.
