Connor Hilton News
A Friendswood 18-year-old accused of shooting two other teenagers at his house in 2023 has pleaded guilty to murder, according to court records.
A Galveston County judge handed Connor Hilton a 50-year prison sentence Tuesday for the murder of 18-year-old Ethan Riley in a shooting that left another teenager critically wounded.
Hilton decided to plead guilty after a judge denied his legal team’s request last Tuesday to argue that the mental side effects of an acne drug caused him to shoot the two victims, according to defense attorney Rick Detoto.
Detoto said Hilton accepted an offer from the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office after “some very long and serious meetings” with him and family members. He said Hilton has accepted responsibility for the murder and didn’t want the surviving victim, Ben Bliek, or either of the victims’ families to withstand a criminal trial.
“I think he’s extremely remorseful for what happened,” Detoto said. “He’s very sorry for the parents and everyone involved.”
Hilton, who was 17 at the time of the shootings, previously told police he “thought about, and wanted, to commit a homicide for a long time” and used a gun he convinced his mother to buy him, according to 2023 Chronicle reporting. A man who called 911 said he heard Hilton crying and saying “What have I done?” after hearing two gunshots.
Hilton was also charged with aggravated assault in the shooting of Bliek, the victim who survived, according to court records.
