Tyler Miller Case

Tyler Miller, the 16-year-old charged in the stabbing death of Amonie Ervin over Thanksgiving weekend last year, has been sentenced to serve life in prison without a possibility of parole.

Miller had entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity in Wood County Court of Common Pleas, but he changed his plea to guilty in April. Miller was indicted by a Wood County Grand Jury in December on charges of aggravated murder in the November 29th death of 19-year-old Ervin.

The teenager, accused of killing a 19-year-old in a Perrysburg driveway, allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim at least five times in the chest and abdomen, according to preliminary court filings.

Miller allegedly stabbed Ervin in his vehicle. Ervin then exited the vehicle and collapsed on the driveway. Miller fled the scene but was picked up by authorities a short time later with a knife in his pocket and what appeared to be blood on his clothing.

According to court filings, Miller said he was upset with Ervin because he had shorted him twice with marijuana. Miller said he set up a deal with the victim to purchase a half ounce of marijuana, but he intended on killing him and took a knife from his kitchen before meeting Ervin.

During his incarceration, Miller was transferred from the juvenile detention center to the Wood County Justice Center for creating a threat to the security of the facility. He allegedly made threats to kill a witness in the case; attempted to smuggle a pencil in his sock to court; told personnel if anyone messes with him, “It’s their life”; told personnel he does not know why he is in so much trouble, that he has no idea why it is wrong to kill someone.

Tyler Miller News

A 16-year-old will spend the rest of his life behind bars without possibility of parole after pleading guilty to the aggravated murder of 19-year-old Amonie Ervin.

Tyler Miller, 16, entered his guilty plea back in April after previously entering a not guilty plea by reason of insanity in Wood County Common pleas court last December.

According to court documents, Miller admitted to stabbing Ervin at least five times outside a Perrysburg residence, resulting in Ervin’s death. According to those documents, Miller said he was upset with Ervin because he had “shorted” him twice while purchasing marijuana.

The documents also stated that Miller took a knife from his kitchen to meet Ervin and then stabbed him with that knife.

Lucas County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Hudson said Ervin suffered 20-25 sharp force injuries, including a mix of stabs and cut wounds to the head, face, neck, chest as well as both arms and hands.

The stabbing caused damage to Ervin’s heart, lungs and neck. The weapon used was a kitchen or steak knife, Dr. Hudson said.
