According to court documents Maan Alblowi and Iyanna Colon were involved in an argument over how loud the music was. It would end with Iyanna strangling Maan until he was dead.
After the murder Iyanna would later admit to cleaning up the apartment, taking a long nap and going for a walk around the parking lot because she was tired of looking at him

A Kalamazoo woman charged in a deadly strangulation was sentenced to life in prison,Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Williams confirmed Wednesday.
A jury found Iyanna Maria Colon guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Maan Alblowi, 25, in January 2022, Williams confirmed.
The two began to fight over loud music when Alblowi began to choke Colon, investigators said.
Colon claimed it was a life or death situation that caused her to in turn choke Alblowi, who stopped breathing, documents show.
Colon told police once she realized he was dead, she spent an hour and a half sitting next to him crying and praying before she covered him with a robe and dragged him into a closet.
Before leaving the apartment, Colon told police she slept on the man’s living room mattress for several hours then took a walk in the apartment complex’s parking lot because she was, “tired of looking at him.”
Colon also cleaned the apartment after the incident with cleaning products, which were later found by investigators, according to court records.
She reportedly told family that she had cleaned the apartment in an effort to conceal her fingerprints, police said.

A Kalamazoo woman told investigators she spent hours in the Portage apartment of a dead man before dragging him into his closet before reporting the death to police, according to court records.
Iyanna Marie Colon, 21 of Kalamazoo, was charged with one count of open murder in the death ofMaan Alblowi, 25, during her arraignment in Kalamazoo County District Court Thursday. Colon could face a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole, if convicted.
Detectives said they found Alblowi’s body inside a closet of his apartment at the Briargate Apartment complex in Portage Tuesday morning.
Colon told investigators she and Alblowi got into a fight Monday over loud music. During questioning, she explained to investigators that the fight escalated and the 25-year-old charged at her and eventually started choking her. Colon indicated to police, according to the documents, that she was in a life or death situation that caused her to in turn choke Alblowi, who stopped breathing.
Colon told police once she realized he was dead, she spent an hour and a half sitting next to him crying and praying before she covered him with a robe and dragged him into a closet. Later that morning, police said Colon contacted her family after leaving Alblowi’s apartment. Colon arrived with family members at Portage Public Safety Headquarters to report the death. Colon was held in police custody for questioning and was held close to 48 hours before she was formally charged with murder.
Colon appeared to be homeless before she started living at Alblowi’s apartment one week before the man’s death, police said. Colon had only known the 25-year-old man for about two months, she told police.
When searching the apartment, located in the 400 block of Tudor Circle at Briargate Apartments, police said they found evidence consistent with Colon’s story.
Colon also cleaned the apartment after the incident with cleaning products, which were later found by investigators, according to court records. Colon reportedly told family that she had cleaned the apartment in an effort to conceal her fingerprints, police said.
Alblowi suffered injuries to the neck, head and upper body consistent with the events described by Colon during an autopsy conducted Thursday. The documents noted that the consistency of the injuries toAlblowi and Colon’s statement indicated the 21-year-old caused the injuries that lead to the man’s death.
Court records showed Iyanna Colon served jail time for two separate felony convictions within the last six months. On Aug. 17, 2021, Colon was sentenced to 44 days in the Kalamazoo County Jail after she pleaded pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon. Kalamazoo Police said Colon struck a man repeatedly in the head with a round metal pipe inside his home Mar. 24, 2021.
Colon was sentenced to five days in Kalamazoo County Jail on Dec. 15, 2021, after she pleaded guilty to one count of resisting, obstructing a police officer during a Aug. 2021 incident in Kalamazoo.
Iyanna Colon remains behind bars at the Kalamazoo County Jail. She’s scheduled for a probable cause on the murder charge Feb. 10.
