Chase Hawley Case

A Lackawanna County man who police said killed his infant daughter last year pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree murder and child endangerment, prosecutors said.

Chase Hawley, 24, of Simpson, faces a potential maximum of 45 years behind bars for the killing of Cecilia Hawley, a one-month-old who died last fall of blunt force trauma.

Hawley had been alone with the infant once her mother, Krista Rossetti, left for work in October. He told investigators with Carbondale police the child would not eat, so he forced a bottle into the baby’s mouth. He also admitted he shook her, police said.

Cecilia Hawley went pale and limp. She was dead within a few days. An autopsy found she died of blunt force trauma.

“So Cecilia’s dead,” Chase Hawley reportedly said in a recorded jail telephone call. “I am a murderer now.”

A sentencing date will be scheduled in the next 90 days.

As stated in the affidavit, Hawley said he became frustrated and forced the bottle into the victim’s mouth, causing her to bleed, Hawley then admitted to shaking the infant multiple times.
