Mandie Miller and Aleksander Kurmoyarov are two killers from Washington State who were convicted of the murder of an eight year old girl

According to court documents Mandie Miller and Aleksander Kurmoyarov would torture and starve eight year old Meela Miller over an extended period of time. The little girl had her toes broken with a hammer after she misbehaved. The little girl was also restrained for hours at a time. What the two killers did not realize is their sick actions were caught on a home surveillance camera

Meela Miller would eventually die from her prolonged abuse and Mandie Miller and Aleksander Kurmoyarov  would put her body into a UHaul which they drove around for three months. Eventually the pair of killers would bring the body of Meela Miller to a funeral home but when they could not produce the proper paperwork regarding her death the funeral home would contact police

Mandie Miller and Aleksander Kurmoyarov Case

An Airway Heights woman will serve 32 years in prison for the 2022 homicide of her niece and adopted daughter.

Mandie Miller pleaded guilty January 14 to homicide by abuse, assault and the unlawful imprisonment of 8-year-old Mandie Miller. The prosecutor said Friday at sentencing this agreement spares the community a trial and provides finality for those who love Meela

“[The] defendant neglected, abused and starved an eight year old little girl,” Spokane County deputy prosecutor Emily Sullivan said. “By the time officers in South Dakota found a corpse in a coffin in a U haul weighed only 26 pounds.”

Miller and her boyfriend, Aleksandr Kurmoyarov, were arrested in South Dakota in December 2022, after driving the girl’s body around in a U-Haul trailer.

Court documents say they arrived at a funeral home with a coffin containing the girl’s remains. Documents state the couple did not have the proper documentation for a burial, so the funeral home called the police.

“She restrained her for hours upon hours, day after day. Unbeknownst to them, their home camera system recorded them assaulting Meela, and unbeknownst to them, their home camera system recorded them tying her to a car seat with zip ties to restrain her,” Sullivan said. “The facts before this court are undisputed. They did assault her, they did starve her, they did restrain her, they did torture her, and they did kill her.”

In a courtroom filled with emotion, the judge heard from family members who spoke through tears about their loss.

“I forgive you, and Jesus Christ loves you,” said Andrea Miller, Meela’s biological mom. “And I pray this never happens to another child.”

Forgiveness, anger and heartbreak hung in the air. Photos and memories of Meela are what her family now cling to.

“You did this with no remorse, murdering my third child, my beautiful daughter, Meela Rose Miller,” Andrea Miller told her sister. “Named after our sister, Amelia Rose Miller, my best friend, my sister and auntie to my children, a Marine who died in 2013 at 23.”

Mandie Miller read a statement describing her difficult childhood in foster care, briefly acknowledging what she had done to Meela.

“My daughter did not deserve any abuse or neglect from me,” she said. “She most definitely didn’t deserve any abuse from Alex.”

“We’re here because a little girl was tortured, she was starved, her interests were not protected,” said Judge Rachelle Anderson. “And as a parent, this is the worst crime a person can commit against their own child, their adopted child, their own family member.”

As part of her plea agreement, prosecutors recommended Miller serve 30 years in prison.

However, Judge Rachelle Anderson opted to sentence Miller to the maximum allowed in the sentencing range for her crimes: 32 years.

“While two years might not be a huge difference in the life of many of us sitting here, a sentence on the high end, of 388 months, the maximum that I can order within that standard range, I think speaks to how significant a loss it is that Meela Rose is no longer with us,” Judge Anderson said.

Miller, 36, will also serve three years of community custody once her prison term is completed.

Kurmoyarov is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to murder, assault and unlawful imprisonment charges as part of a plea deal, one that takes life in prison off the table.
