Michael Chmielewski Case

A lot of anger today from Jacquelyn Porreca’s sister who is not satisfied with Michael Chmielewski’s plea deal.

His attorney says today was very hard for him and he is remorseful.

“It’s (expletive). It really is (expletive),” Gio Falciano, sister of Jacquelyn Porreca said.

Falciano is outraged, wishing new York state had the death penalty. She does not believe 22 years to life in prison is justice for the brutal murder of her sister Jackie last August.

Chmielewski accepted that plea deal on Tuesday, admitting he stabbed her to death at the Recycled Salon during a robbery his attorney says was fueled by heroin addiction.

Chmielewski admitted to the murder in statements to police, an informant and in a documentary. In court, he showed little emotion, except here when he was seen laughing with his attorney Cheryl Coleman.

“We had a private joke that had nothing to do with that. If you want to put responsibility put that responsibility on me. I knew very well how hard that was for him today and I wanted to lighten the moment for him today. Don’t think for a moment that he isn’t filled with remorse,” Coleman said.

“I honestly think he thinks this whole thing is a joke just like he thought it was a joke with the documentary. I just think that shows sociopathic behavior not the behavior of someone who’s struggling with an addiction,” Falciano said.

It’s unlikely to happen but Falciano hopes at sentencing in November Judge Breslin imposes more than 22 years to life.

“I want to protect her and it just feels like I can’t. I’m powerless over this outcome if there really will be justice for her,” Falciano said.

Chmielewski will be back for sentencing on November 9th.
