Tiffanie Lucas Case
Tiffanie Lucas, the Shepherdsville mother who pleaded guilty to killing her two children last November, was sentenced to life in Bullitt Circuit Court Friday.
A spokesperson with Bullitt County Circuit Criminal Court confirmed Friday morning that Lucas received a sentence of life in prison from Judge Rodney Burress.
Bullitt County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bailey Taylor, who’d recommended life on both counts, later said Lucas had been given life with the possibility of parole, where she’ll be eligible for a parole hearing after serving a 20-year minimum. The mother pleaded guilty to murder charges in late October after first pleading not guilty by reason of insanity earlier in September.
“I thought that it was important the case be resolved in an appropriate fashion in a reasonable period of time,” Taylor said. “I thought in this juncture, willing to make an open plea with life without parole for 20 years being on the table, I thought that was a just and fair resolution of the matter.”
The mother’s charges follow deputies responding to her home after receiving a report of gunshots last November. Inside a bedroom in the house in the 200 block of Bentwood Drive, they found her sons, ages 6 and 9, suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to Norton’s Children’s Hospital and later died.
Lucas’ arrest citation states a witness at the scene identified Lucas as the shooter and that a gun was found inside the room where the children were located. She’d previously been held in the Bullitt County Detention Center on a $2 million cash bond while awaiting sentencing.
